This is a really interesting conundrum about internet identity. I can see both sides of the argument, but my gut reaction is tipping my own personal opinion towards that of Zuckerberg. I think it’s probably my mom’s — and her mom’s teaching before that — of the idea that “if you wouldn’t want someone else reading what you wrote then it’s probably a good idea to think twice about writing it.”
I also tend tip towards the idea of transparency because I think the folks that use anonymity for hurtful reasons outweigh those that use it for positive reasons. Perhaps there’s a way forward that incorporates both ideas. A tiered system has been proposed by Dr. Andrew Cline and for good reason.
